Welcome to My Kitchen

Welcome to My Kitchen

Nowadays, if you want to build a fairly straightforward website like this one, there are so many tools that can help you get the job done.

You have popular no-code builders like Shopify, Squarespace, Webflow, Wix, etc.

If you want a blog, there are out-of-the-box systems like Medium and Substack.

Yet the website you’re reading uses none of the above.

Step into my kitchen

A foodie or chef would probably tell you that dishes made “from scratch” are superior.

We’ve heard it in countless marketing pitches: fewer ingredients, fewer preservatives, an unprocessed experience.

In a nerdy twist, remove the foodie or chef and insert the designer or programmer.

A website that isn’t built in a popular framework should have fewer ingredients and fewer preservatives, making it a less processed experience.

This website was made from scratch in my kitchen.

Let's cook it up

If I’m being honest—in classic fashion for me—I set a challenge, publishing this site from scratch, before considering any of the details of what it would require.

I knew the fridge was stocked, spices were in the cabinet, and the cookware was clean.

I just needed to whip it and cook it—whatever it was.

Of course I encountered many more details than I imagined. But in fact I did have everything I needed.

Fast-forwarding, what I’ve published is a simple representation of my design preferences and communication style.

Are you in the tv audience?

In general, I’m a private person, but I’m cool with putting on a mini display here.

This kitchen is one of those talk show kitchens.

I’m the support staff, on-air talent, and production team.

My episodes, these posts, will come out, and I’ll check the ratings.

However, a difference with this show is that—because maximizing eyeballs isn’t my north star—the ratings and metrics won’t dictate what gets produced.

The north star: time well spent

I can’t tell you what this site will ultimately become.

What I can promise is that everything produced here—about the milestones and the mundane—will be shared in hopes that you’ll find your time consuming it well spent.

Every episode, I hope you laugh or learn. And while digesting your favorite episodes, I hope you do both!

The only guarantee I can give is a window into my perspective—nothing more and nothing less.
